Rerouting Shipments in Transit

Overview of Reroute Requests

In a fast-moving supply chain, site availability can change without notice. Whether a facility is temporarily closed or a priority shift requires assets at a different location, rerouting a shipment while it is in motion prevents failed delivery attempts and unnecessary asset handling. This is especially critical for Industrial and Manufacturing equipment where specialized receiving is required.

How to Request a Change in Destination

To change the delivery address for a package already dispatched, follow these steps:

  1. Access the Tracking Portal: Log in and locate the specific shipment under your "Active Dispatches".

  2. Select 'Reroute Shipment': If the carrier supports in-flight changes for your region, this button will be active.

  3. Enter New Coordinates: Provide the updated loading dock number or facility address.

  4. Confirm Fees: Note that rerouting may incur additional fuel surcharges or administrative fees depending on the distance from the original route.

Managing Vacation Holds

If you simply need to delay a delivery rather than change the location, you can request a Vacation Hold. This instructs the carrier to keep the asset at the local distribution hub for up to 5 business days, ensuring the shipment stays in a secure, climate-controlled environment until your team is ready to receive it.

Limitations and Deadlines

  • Time Sensitivity: Reroute requests must be submitted at least 24 hours before the estimated arrival time at the original destination.

  • Final Mile: Once a shipment has reached the "Out for Delivery" status with a local courier, rerouting is generally no longer possible.

  • Security Clearance: For high-value Financial or Tech assets, a secondary identity verification may be required before the reroute is authorized.
