Troubleshooting

The 3.4W Solar Power Pack is designed to supply power to compatible trail cameras using solar energy. If you're experiencing power-related issues, use the troubleshooting steps below based on the specific symptoms.

Issue: Not Charging or Not Fully Charging via Cord

  1. Check Battery Level:
    • Press the battery level indicator button.
    • If no lights appear, charge using a USB to USB-C cord and wall outlet for 4–14 hours, or until fully charged.
    • If lights do appear, continue troubleshooting.
  2. Check for Incomplete Charging (3 bars only):
    • If the panel stops at 3 bars, try switching to a USB-C to USB-C cable. Many USB to USB-C cords do not provide full voltage.
  3. Test the Camera Independently:
    • Disconnect the panel and insert new Energizer or FieldNode AA batteries into the camera.
    • If the camera does not turn on, it may be a camera issue.
    • If it does turn on, the panel may be the issue — continue troubleshooting.
  4. Reconnect All Cables Securely:
    • Unplug both ends of the panel cord and plug them back in.
    • Remove the USB-C cable from the solar panel.
    • Reconnect it, pushing the connector fully in until the plastic on the screw-side is flush with the panel.
    • Tighten the screw only after the cable is fully seated.
  5. Ensure Sunlight Exposure:
    • Confirm the panel is placed in direct sun and free of shade or obstructions.

Issue: Not Charging via Sun

  1. Verify it Charges via Wall First:
    • Try charging the panel via USB to USB-C cord and wall outlet.
    • Note whether this works before proceeding.
  2. Evaluate Usage:
    • Is high camera activity (e.g., video, night shots, rapid photos) draining power faster than it can recharge?
    • If yes, reduce settings and monitor performance.
  3. Check Sunlight Conditions:
    • Review recent camera images for lighting.
    • If obstructed (trees, shadows), clear the area and test again.
    • If in direct sunlight, continue troubleshooting.
  4. Full USB Charge and Cable Check:
    • Charge for 4–14 hours via USB to USB-C or USB-C to USB-C.
    • If stuck at 3 bars, switch to USB-C to USB-C.
  5. Recheck and Secure All Cables:
    • Follow the same secure reconnection process as listed above.
  6. Test Again in Sunlight:
    • After charging and reconnecting, place the panel back in the sun and monitor.

Issue: Not Powering Camera

  1. Fully Charge the Panel:
    • Charge via USB to USB-C or USB-C to USB-C for 4–14 hours.
  2. Reconnect All Cords Securely:
    • Unplug and firmly reconnect both ends of the solar panel cord.
    • Ensure the USB-C plug is fully seated, then tighten the screw after connection.
  3. Test Camera With Batteries:
    • Insert new AA batteries and attempt to power the camera.
    • If the camera works on batteries, the issue is likely with the panel.

Issue: No Power

  1. Charge the Panel:
    • Use a USB to USB-C cord and wall outlet for 4–14 hours.
  2. Reconnect After Charging:
    • Unplug both ends of the panel cord and reconnect them.
    • Disconnect and reconnect the USB-C plug, pressing it in firmly.
    • Tighten the screw only after the plug is fully seated.
  3. Sunlight Check:
    • Ensure the panel is placed in full sunlight and is not obstructed.
