How to Manage the Smart Capture Feature on Edge 3 Series Cameras

What Is Smart Capture on Edge 3 Cameras?

Edge 3 Series cameras introduce a new version of Smart Capture. While the previous version of Smart Capture let you choose what you wanted images of, this new version of Smart Capture takes it a step further — letting you assign specific capture settings to different targets.

How It Works

With Smart Capture, you can assign a different action to each target. For example:

  • Buck → Photo → Upload Immediately
  • Turkey → Photo → Do Not Upload Immediately (follows the regular upload interval)
  • Person & Vehicle → Video → Upload Immediately

This gives you greater control over what’s captured and when it’s sent.

What Happens If Smart Capture Is On or Off?

  • If SMART CAPTURE is ON for a target:
The camera captures based on the settings you’ve chosen for that target. It will also continue to capture motion based on your General Motion settings (if enabled).
  • If SMART CAPTURE is OFF for a target:
The camera will still capture motion using General Motion settings, as long as General Motion is turned on.

Tip: Even if SMART CAPTURE is turned off, your camera will not miss general motion — as long as General Motion is active.

Why Use Smart Capture?

Smart Capture allows for smarter targeting and more efficient battery use. You can prioritize uploads for critical subjects (like people or vehicles) and delay others (like wildlife) to conserve power and data — all while making sure you never miss the shots that matter most.
