How to Manage Your Camera Settings
FieldNode lets you manage camera settings from anywhere, right in the app or on the website. Want more photos or fewer? Adjust your settings remotely and dial things in fast. Looking for a quick, battery-friendly setup? The tips below show exactly what to turn on and what to turn down to stretch your power.
Quick Battery-Saver Setup (2-minute tune-up)
If your goal is to extend battery life while still catching the important moments, start here:
-
Choose Photo (not Video) for routine monitoring.
-
Lower upload frequency (e.g., hourly or daily) instead of instant/real-time.
-
Turn Off On-Demand unless you truly need on-demand checks.
-
Increase detection delay to prevent back-to-back triggers.
-
Use medium detection sensitivity to reduce false triggers from wind/brush.
Result: fewer unnecessary uploads, less power drain, and solid coverage.
Continue below for detailed camera setting definitions and step-by-step instructions on how to update each one.
DEVICE SETTINGS DEFINED
- Camera Name: This determines the name that is displayed on the info strip and in your app.
- Power Source: The power source being utilized currently.
- Temperature: Determines units temperature readings are provided in. (Fahrenheit or Celsius)
- Format SD Card/Clear Memory: When enabled, this will format (erase) the SD Card or internal memory at the next check-in.
- Daily Test Image: This allows the camera to take a daily test image between 12 pm-1 pm and will be uploaded at the next check-in. This does count towards your monthly image allowance.
- Managed Memory: If enabled, this feature will automatically delete the oldest image or video from the SD Card or internal memory to make room for new uploads.
CAPTURE SETTINGS DEFINED
- Upload Frequency: This determines how often your device uploads pictures.
- PIR Sensitivity: This setting determines the amount and proximity of motion required to trigger the camera in motion detect mode.
- Detection Delay: This setting determines how long your camera will 'sleep' after taking a picture before it is allowed to trigger again.
- Photo Resolution: This setting determines the resolution of the photo.
-
Multi Shot
- Single Shot: If this option is selected, your camera will take one picture each time the camera is triggered.
- 3 Burst: If this option is selected, your camera will take three pictures in rapid succession each time your camera is triggered.
- 3 Trigger: If this option is selected, your camera will take up to three photos before activating the detection delay, as long as the motion that originally triggered the camera continues to be detected.
- Smart Burst: If this option is selected, your camera will take 2–10 photos based on motion. Only available on Edge 3 Series cameras. In the gallery, bursts can be tapped to view individual photos. Users can favorite, share, delete, or add the full burst to an album. To act on a single photo, ungroup the burst—note that this prevents regrouping. Hi-res requests require ungrouping. A minimum of 2 motion-triggered photos is needed.
-
Capture Mode:
- Motion Detect: If this option is selected, your camera will use a Passive Infrared Sensor (PIR) to capture photos when motion is detected.
- Time-Lapse: If this option is selected, the camera will disable its motion detection function and capture photos at set intervals based on the predetermined time-lapse periods.
- Motion + Time-Lapse: If this option is selected, your camera will use PIR to capture photos when motion is detected while simultaneously operating your time-lapse schedule.
- Motion Freeze: When turned on the camera will use a shorter exposure at night to reduce blur on moving objects.
- Smart Capture (Edge Pro, Edge 2 Pro): Smart Capture technology lets you control what kind of pictures and videos your camera will transmit. Simply select the animals (or vehicle) you want to see, and your camera's onboard A.I. will filter out the rest.
- Smart Zones (Edge Series): Smart Zones allow you to selectively turn off areas within your camera's field-of-view that could falsely trigger the camera.
-
Smart Capture (Edge 3):
- Smart Capture allows you to assign specific capture settings to different target types, such as Buck, Doe, Hog, Turkey, Vehicle, or Person. This feature gives you more control over what your camera prioritizes.
- Smart Capture Full Resolution Uploads are only available for Buck detections.
- When Smart Capture is ON for any target type, the camera will follow those target-specific settings. However, if General Motion is also turned ON, the camera will still capture movement that falls outside of your Smart Capture settings.
- When Smart Capture is OFF for a target type, the camera ignores that specific detection category but will still capture motion if General Motion is enabled.
- This flexibility lets you fine-tune what your camera focuses on without missing general activity.
-
Photo or Video:
